American Society of Cinematographers
The American Society of Cinematographers is a non profit organization committed to advancing the art of filmmaking. Created in 1919, the society has been active in educating aspiring filmmakers in the craft of cinematography.The organization publishes an internationally respected magazine called American Cinematographer and the American Cinematographer Manual.
Membership to the ASC is by invitation only. Invitations are based on the cinematographers body of work, and currently boasts somewhere between three hundred and four hundred members from 20 different countries. Membership is considered one of the highest honors available to a professional cinematographer.
The ASC has several committees actively involved in the development of motion picture technology. Committees include the Technology Committee, Education Committee, Public-Relations Committee, the Publications Committee.
