Assistant Director

In film production, the assistant director is the person who helps the director with any and every aspect of a film’s creation. The following is a list of the primary responsibilities of an AD:
  • conducting cast rehearsals
  • compiling a shooting schedule
  • tracking the cast and crew’s arrival to set
  • directing the extras
The assistant director can actually be more than one person, with the role being broken down into six additional titles- first assistant director, second assistant director, second second assistant director, third assistant director, additional assistant director, and production assistant. The tasks of the title are distributed throughout the other AD’s, with the first assistant director taking a supervisory role.
