Bass (notes)
Bass is the name given to notes that possess a low timbre. Bass tones are written to produce a harmonic contrast and chord progression, or are paired with the percussion to carry out the rhythm of a piece of music. The bass of a piece is generally emphasized by the fifth, or root, of the chord in order to accent the beat of the music.
