Corbis

Corbis is a company located in Seattle, Washington that licenses rights to visual media, including video footage and photographs. Their collection includes 500,000 video clips and over 100 million photographs.

The company was established by Bill Gates in 1989. Originally named Interactive Home Systems, with the intent to operate as an art-licensing company, Corbis eventually took shape as a “wicker basket”, as it name means in Latin, by storing millions of photos and hours of video footage. Corbis’ total collection includes, but is not limited to, editorial, historical, creative, and entertainment photography.
