Dynamic Range

Dynamic range is the correlation between loud and soft sounds. Dynamic range ratios are utilized when determining the top signal output and noise floor of an audio system. The dynamic range of human hearing, 120 dB, is often used as a point of reference when establishing the distinction between perceivable soft and loud sounds. The dynamic range of a sound can be changed by utilizing expanders, noise gates and compressors- either to create a special effect, or to create an even recording.
