Getty Images is a company that specializes in the sale of royalty-free and rights-managed stock photographs and video footage to consumer markets. Getty Images holds 80 million images and over 50,000 hours of film footage in their archives.

Getty Images Inc. was founded by Jonathan Klein and Mark Getty in 1993 in Seattle, Washington. As the company grew through merges and acquisitions of smaller, family-run stock photo companies, Getty Images has made their catalog more accessible via an extensive Internet database. This website gives companies and corporations, as well as everyday people, the ability to view and purchase stock photos. They expanded their business even more by partnering with Flickr, which allows users to designate personal photos that can be used by outside companies or people in return for payment.

Currently, Getty Images biggest competition is Corbis, owned by Bill Gates.
