Graphics Card

A graphics card, also known as a video card, is the hardware inside a computer that translates an image onto a computer screen or display screen. Graphics cards contain individual components that allow it to run independently from the main elements of its home computer. For example, quality graphics cards contain resident memory chips which prohibits the use of a computer’s RAM in order to accurately and quickly render images onscreen. Graphics cards also contain a GPU, or a graphics processing unit. The GPU converts data into parallel lines, or “pipelines”, which enable the card to process data more quickly. The benefit and ease of installation have caused graphics cards to be utilized for basic computer use, professional use, and for gaming purposes. They range in price, starting around $65, and soaring as high as $2,400.
