Hertz
The hertz, named after German physicist, Heinrich Hertz, is the unit of measurement for frequency. A singular hertz is equal to “one cycle per second”, a phrase that was replaced by hertz in 1960. The hertz can be prefixed with mega, kilo, giga, and tera, and the average adult can hear a sound that is between 20 Hz and 16, 000 Hz.
