JPEG
JPEG, or Joint Photographic Experts Group, is a type of lossy compression for photographic images. JPEG sets guidelines for the processes used for storing images. The JPEG standard is most commonly used for saving and transporting images on the Internet. The file extensions associated with JPEG are .jpg, .jfif, .jpeg, and .jpe. The JPEG format is best utilized with realistic paintings and photographs, not line drawings (as with a chart). Due to the method of lossy compression, a file that is larger will be of greater quality than that of a small file.
