Key Frame
In video compression, a key frame is an individual frame that does not depend on the preceding or following frames to save its information. In order to reduce the amount of bits needed for reproducing an entire picture, the creation of a key frame is necessary when an extreme alteration, such as a switch to another camera or a change of scene, occurs. Key frames are best utilized when placed incrementally throughout a video.
