Production Glossary
Post Production
Post-production is an element of video and film production that occurs after all principle photography is completed. Due to the numerous components allotted to post-production, it is usually the longest portion of the filmmaking process, taking anywhere from a few months to a year to complete. The following is a list of tasks that are completed during the post-production phase:
- Sound design: this includes foley work, sound effects, adding and mixing music, and ADR (automated dialogue replacement).
- Composition and recording of the score and/or soundtrack.
- Editing
- Special effects: specifically CGI (computer-generated imagery).
- Shift of color motion picture film onto video and performing the appropriate color grading.
Thanks to the advent of digital technology, post-production processes, specifically editing, have decreased in time by using non-linear editing software.
