Screen Actors Guild - SAG
SAG, the Screen Actors Guild, is a labor union that acts on behalf of American actors and actresses, both background (extras) and principle actors. The main objective of the guild is to make sure that its members receive proper pay, benefits, and a safe work environment. The Screen Actors Guild was formed in 1933 after years of movie studios locking actors into overbearing, long-term contracts. In order to become a member of the union an actor must meet one of the following requirements:
1. Work at least one day as a principle performer on a SAG project, then after thirty days pay the appropriate dues and agreeing to membership rules.
2. Be a part of an associated union that is affiliated with the Associated Actors and Artistes of America.
3. Collect at least three vouchers for work as an extra on a SAG project.
