USB

The Universal Serial Bus, or USB, is a device that provides users with the option of connecting additional hardware to their desktop or laptop computers (such as a mouse, keyboard, camera, or modem). Introduced in 1995, USB cables and ports became the industry standard after all the top manufacturers determined that the design and usability of the hardware was premium.

The USB has a number of upgrades since its original release. USB, USB 1.0, and USB 1.1 are able to handle the data transfer of up to 12 mbps. The most recent version, the USB 2.0 Hi Speed, is capable of handling up to 480 mbps of data transfer. If a user desires to utilize more USB ports than their computer allows, USB hubs are available and provide up to four ports for use.
