Video 8
Video8, a video recording format introduced by Sony in the 1980s, was the inaugural “mini” cassette tape for handheld camcorders. The Video8 provided a considerable decrease in size and an improved quality of audio from the VHS. The amount of horizontal resolution, 240 lines, did not change. The major disadvantage to the Video8 was its inability to play in VHS machines. But, despite this drawback, and the fierce Betamax vs VHS war, Video8 was an innovative and successful format.
