Video Graphics Array (VGA)

The term video graphics array, or VGA, refers to the color resolution standard in computer screens. VGA is the baseline standard that all video hardware defaults to in issues of color and resolution display. The VGA mode boasts a resolution of 640 x 480 and a palette of 32 colors. VGA is the third version of color adapters developed by IBM. The first, CGA, or Color Graphics Adapter, was introduced in 1981, followed by the EGA, Enhanced Graphics Adapter, in 1984. Finally, in 1987 the VGA was developed and implemented across the board in video hardware.
