Paying for Virtual Clothing

File this under “Are you kidding me?!?!?”

Virtual world games like Gaia Online, Premier Football and Farmville are growing in popularity. This is no surprise. What might be surprising to find out is that players are willing to pay sometimes outrageous prices for celebrity branded items.

Like what you ask? Like a Snoop Dogg branded hoodie. How much are you willing to pay for your avatar to dress in the best? Apparently some people are willing to shell out as much as $100 cash to affiliate themselves with a celebrity.

Online piracy tells us that as a society we are decreasingly willing to spend money on music from artists, yet we will use our hard earned cash to buy a piece of clothing made out of ones and zeros.

I don’t get it.
