A recent study shows that nearly 60% of the people that fall into the Gen Y category (18 to 29) were leaning towards or seriously considering “cutting the cord” and giving up paid TV service.
As a Gen Y member who has been without cable TV (and subsequently antennae TV since the digital switch) for three years, I can absolutely understand that percentage. For me, it was the cost of cable service vs the amount of channels my family actually watched that swayed me to get rid of it. We are not avid sports fans, and most of the shows we do follow are on network stations that get posted the next day on Hulu. Cable companies are going to have to re-evaluate how they market and price their cable packages if they want to continue being a competitor against Hulu, Netflix, and network websites. I won’t be paying for cable again anytime soon…not when I can watch online for the price of my Internet connection.
