Lady Gaga has over 10 million followers on Twitter. Many fans spend their days just waiting to see what she is going to Tweet about- fashion, music, politics, etc. For Lady Gaga, Twitter is a way to stay in touch with her very large fan-base. She does not need Twitter to sell albums, but most assuredly sells more because of it. On the other hand you have Mumford & Sons who do not use Twitter as a marketing tool. Despite this, they still have the number three album this year. Based solely on their music and traditional PR techniques, this band has achieved success. So, do artists need Twitter to succeed? Clearly not. But, it has to be said that if an artist or group chooses to Tweet, the exposure and connection with fans will no doubt boost the sale of their albums.
