Last week a new music player app was introduced for Android phones. So often apps tend to be designed with an iPhone in mind, but not this one. Created by eMusic, the player includes discographies, biographies, and music suggestions based on what you are listening to. Vice President Prateek Sarkar states, “At base, [the eMusic Android app] is a very simple music player; the app scans the device and finds every music file,” he said, but even non-paying users get some nifty extras. “I can select a mood — I always like to pick ‘whimsical,’” he said, as demonstrating the app’s ability to make fresh mixes of the music you already own, in addition to the usual playback features. After choosing a mood, you can use one slider to pick slow or fast music from your collection and another to toggle between music you play a lot and the stuff you rarely ever hear.” One catch, unless you pay for the full service, which can start at $12 a month, you will be tempted by 30 second sound samples instead of full versions. At least there is a new option for Android users to check out.
